Feeling Anxious? Having Anxiety Symptoms? You Are Not Alone. Quality Counseling Can Help

SEND US A MESSAGE

Anxiety is a feeling we all experience. Some of us experience it more than others. Often anxiety serves a purpose, alerting us that there might be something we should pay attention to. But when it becomes too much and starts to interfere with daily life, anxiety can get in the way of living your life.

At Quality Counseling of New England LLC, we understand anxiety can pull you away from what’s important to you when your anxiety tells you it is too risky to take the actions you want. Anxious thoughts and feelings suggest we better just play it safe avoid taking chances. So we stay home and our anxiety knows right where to find us to keep reminding us of all the dangers out there. It’s a vicious cycle-until we break it! We can help you reduce or eliminate anxiety symptoms.

Common Anxiety Symptoms:

  • Mental: worrying about the future, replaying the past, difficulty concentrating, thinking too much, restless, irritability, and becoming afraid of not being in control.
  • Physical: Fatigue, muscle pain, headache, stomach discomfort, sleeping problems, increased heart rate, dizziness, chronic shortness of breath.
  • Behavioral: Avoidance of anxiety-triggering situations, decision-making difficulties, and social engagement disruption.

The way anxiety symptoms show up differs from one person to another. Our counselors have the expertise to tailor your therapy to target the symptoms of anxiety that affect you using evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Via CBT for anxiety and ACT our counselors will help you discover how to reduce and/or eliminate symptoms of anxiety and the impact anxiety has on you.

Feeling Shy or Self-Conscious? Quality Counseling Can Help You Overcome Social Anxiety

Social anxiety and social phobia are the terms we use to describe the combination of high levels of fear of social situations and avoidance of situations with others. Connecting with other people allows us to feel valued and important. It allows us to learn from each other, to play and laugh, and to find joy in belonging. Sometimes feeling shy or self-conscious makes that hard to do and sometimes feeling anxiety about social situations makes it feel impossible. People who have social anxiety often avoid social situations or they have so much anxiety when they are social, they aren’t able to get the benefits of the interaction.

At Quality Counseling of New England, we have worked with hundreds of clients who have social anxiety and love helping people to regain the benefits of connecting with others.

Here are some signs that you may have social anxiety

  • In Your Social Life
You’ve convinced yourself that you don’t like people as way to justify why you avoid them. You don’t say what you’re thinking, stay quiet. You don’t let people know you’d like to be friends or to date.
  • At School
You work alone even if its more work. You pick the written paper instead of the presentation. You drop the class as soon as you find out there will be an oral presentation.
  • At Work
You don’t get promoted because you avoid presentations, leading a group, or speaking up at work. You avoid the lunchroom, making friends with colleagues, and networking.
  • In General
You don’t want anyone to see you or to observe you doing anything-even if its as simple as crossing the room. You don’t ask questions because you are afraid of what other people will think. You don’t go places alone (surprise: that’s social anxiety too).

At Quality Counseling of New England LLC, your therapist will help you overcome, reduce or even eliminate your social anxiety. We will partner with you in developing approaches for navigating social settings successfully. This may include practices like communication skills training and gradual exposure to build your self-confidence and comfort in social settings. Contact us today. We’re ready to make the process easier for you, even if sending emails or making phone calls is intimidating.
